The romantic village of Dolceacqua, 8km north of Ventimiglia, is the picture perfect example of a ligurian, medieval town.
Narrow mews lead up to the strikingly stunning ruins of the Doria Castle, the landmark of the town. Another ancient jewel of Dolceacqua is the ancient stone bridge, linking the two parts of Dolceacqua, Terra and Borgo. In fact, it already impressed the painter Claude Monet some 100 years ago. Only 4km down the road to the coast, is the pretty village of Camporosso with its beautiful Piazza Garibaldi right in the heart of the village.
The rolling hills surrounding Dolceacqua, produce not only olives but also Liguria’s well known red wine, Rossesse di Dolceacqua. You will have plenty of opportunities to sample this wine in the many restaurants and pizza places the area has to offer. Both, Dolceacqua and Camporosso are perfect locations from where to explore the area. The coast is only 7 km away, the Maritime Alps are 10km away and France is only 29 km down the road. And if you are looking for something special to do in the summer, there are a number of places where to go for a refreshing dip in the fresh water river near Rocchetta Nervina.
