Imperia, the capital of the Riviera of Flowers and situated between Alassio and San Remo, was created when the two villages of Oneglia and Porto Maurizio were linked into one and plays an important role as a centre of local administration and industry. The old town of Maurizio lies just above Imperia on a hill side and invites for a stroll through the historic centre and along its shopping street, Via Cascionde. Imperia does not only have all the amenities of a larger town, it also has an extensive cultural program to offer. Not far from Oneglia is the Ligurian hinterland with its romantic villages such as Pontedassio, Chiusavecchia, Chiusanico and Lucinasco and the many wide olive groves, producing one of the world’s finest olive oils.
