As you may not wish to spend your entire summer holidays with sunbathing and eating ice cream alone, we would like to invite you to some of the cultural events taking place during the summer months. As mentioned earlier, the picturesque village of Cervo will be hosting the international festival of chamber music. During the months of July and August, some of the most celebrated musicians of the international classical music scene hold a famous music festival on the Piazza Corallini under the baroque façade of the San Giovanni Battista Church. There is hardly a more suited place for such a special music event.
If you are interested in antique furniture and accessories, you may wish to visit the Sanremo antico. This extensive antique fair takes place on the Piazza San Siro every third Sunday of the summer months until September. Between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm craftsmen and antique dealers invite you to browse through their wide selection of attractive goods. The next scheduled dates are 21.06.2009, 19.07.2009 and 16.08.2009.
If feel like ‘letting your hair down’ you should join the fire fighter’s night of Ferragosta.
Every year on the 15th August, a spectacular firework display opens the festivities to the public holiday ‘assumption day’ in the harbour of Sanremo and is followed by a party until well into the early hours of the morning. These festivities compare in atmosphere and exuberance to a carnival. All office work stops for the day and the Italians tend to plan their summer holidays around this day. Hotels are usually fully booked at this time and prices reach their annual peak. If this does not put you off, you will be able to indulge in an unforgettable experience.
And here we will end our little tour along the Ligurian coast. We hope to have given you some ideas on how to spend your precious time on the Riviera of flowers. Or maybe we inspired you to come and spend your summer holidays amidst the culture, the idyllic hinterland and the traditional seaside resorts at the foot of the Maritime Alps.
