The weekly folkloristic market in Sanremo, stretches from the Piazza Eroi Sanremesi into the many neighbouring mews and the markets in Bordighera, Diano Marino and many Ligurian towns are equally colourful. The oriental market “Mercato Orientale” in Genova is another main attraction but the largest of them all and a real event in itself is the market held in Ventimiglia. Here, you will be spoilt for choice by the wide range of Ligurian specialities such as marinated olives and tomatoes, vegetables, meat and fish, directly supplied by local farmers and fishermen. And there are always some market tenders offering cheap copies of world brands - until the police turns up.
If you are looking for something special, you may get lucky on the antique markets in Alassio or Diano Marina as well as in the small shops in Genova’s old town. The old part of Genova has quite a reputation but is worth exploring for that special bargain. The shopping streets such as the elegant Corso Matteotti in Sanremo or the Via Roma and the Via Settembre XX in Genova are very attractive to stroll down or you may want to spend an evening in Alassio, where you will find high fashion at affordable prices. The world fashion capitals such as Monte Carlo, Nice and Cannes are also not far away.
